Behaviour Referral
Behaviour problems are common among small animals and equines – the statistics for relinquishment and PTS for behaviour problems are alarming.
It can be difficult for your clients to know where to go for help, especially as the pet behaviour profession is not yet fully regulated. This can be alleviated by a team of qualified, experienced and independently accredited behaviourists working on veterinary referral.

Lunch & Learns
Why not meet up with your local behaviourist? Many of our team are happy to provide free CPD opportunities to staff and other resources for your patients. Or do you fancy opening a behaviour clinic within your practice?
Referral
Why is referral important?
Consider medical factors
Behavioural medicine is an integral branch of internal medicine – one often impacts the other. Thus a full work-up is advised prior to behaviour referral to rule out or address contributing medical factors, improving prognosis.
appropriate quals
Animal welfare, health and indeed wider public safety are at risk if there is no referral before behaviour treatment takes place, or if referral is made to an inappropriately qualified individual. In a currently unregulated industry, BSAVA and BVA have released guidance on how best to choose a behaviourist for patients – you do not need to worry when you make a referral to an ABC clinician.
emotional health
Questioning your clients about the emotional well-being of their animals is just as important as a thorough clinical examination. Routine Qs can often prevent and identify issues early before they develop into serious and risky behaviour problems.
we have the time
Taking a behaviour history to make an accurate assessment is usually an extensive process not easy to address within a practice environment. We have the time to listen to your clients and support your patients. Our behaviourists provide an all-embracing, comprehensive service. We provide urgent advice fast, meet animals in their homes, virtually, in local spaces or clinics elsewhere, then follow-up is ongoing as needed.
